The US Bishops called on President Donald Trump and Attorney General William Barr to stop the federal use of the death penalty ahead of more executions this week.
In the US, opposition is growing to a Catholic award for Attorney General William Barr, who directed the July 2020 restart of federal executions after a 17-year moratorium.
The US Federal Government has carried out five executions so far this year. Two of those took place last week, and two more are scheduled for the end of September.
Recently the organization ‘Catholic Vote’ issued a statement in which they accused the Democratic Party of fueling a climate of hate against Catholics. And called on Biden “to stand up to the rising climate of anti-Catholicism across the country.”
“Remembering the Lord’s call for mercy, we renew our plea: stop these executions!”, the US Bishops have cried to the government on the resumption of the federal death penalty.
US Catholics have denounced the execution planned for this Wednesday of the only Native American on federal death row.
