Vatican cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples and President of Church charity Caritas Internationalis, has said on the COVID-19 crisis that we should wash our hands, but not of our responsibility for vulnerable people.
At his Friday morning Mass in the Chapel of the Casa Santa Marta, Pope Francis expressed his gratitude for those who think of others in this difficult time of the coronavirus pandemic.
“In these days there’s so much suffering. There’s a lot of fear.” Pope Francis’ thus began the Sacred Liturgy which he offered in the chapel of the Casa Santa Marta on Thursday morning.
“Today I would like us to pray for the elderly”, were Pope Francis’ first words as he began Mass at the Casa Santa Marta on Tuesday morning.
Pope Francis urged Church and society today to fight the “indifference and rejection” the elderly suffer with a “revolution of tenderness”.
The Vatican Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life has organized an International Conference on the pastoral care of the elderly.
Little Elena Romeo said to everyone in a loud voice: “The new generations can and will do a lot for peace and the environment. Because we don’t like the world as it is”.
“Young people are frequently discarded because they do not have a job, and the elderly are discarded with the pretense of maintaining a ‘balanced’ economic system”, Pope Francis has deplored, enlisting the help of older people in the fight against this “poisonous throwaway culture”.
